Starting where I am...

I recently trained with a lovely woman to become a birth doula. Made the investment of time and money. Got excited with that have been feeling like I don't know enough yet to really do the job well (may as well be honest!). This feeling is likely not accurate information from my cute brain. Intuitively I support, step back, lean in, listen, trust, and encourage. I didn't need a class to teach me that. There is nothing to it but to do it and while I will say YES! to that first birth client I am also really good at something else...

Today I had an aha moment! I was holding the idea of a postpartum doula as something that would grow out of the birth doula relationships but today I realized that maybe postpartum is actually my starting place. My place to step in with confidence to support families. Babies, routine, nurturing those that are nurturing little ones, listening and strategizing solutions, helping people feel supported even though everything is new. This I am wired for. This I know.

And so I am shifting. Pivoting, as some would say. Putting postpartum first and letting the birth clients flow from that. Feels good. Feels right.
